New board games: Rise of empires cool strategy party game

Rise of empires is a board game produced by Mayfair Games and created by the fervid mind of Martin Wallace.
Rise of Empires is a strategy board game (up to 5 players) for the supremacy of the world, set in different ages.
To understand Rise of Empires we have to ails to take into consideration all the different aspects of the board game, such as technology, army, economy.
The spatial part of the game is very abstract in the map and is divided into three regions one for each different age of the game.
The game starts in the Mediterranean, (like the classic Eurocentric vision of the world) and players can attack and make wars but the territorial exansion has little importance in this game, because your empire is abstract and a is made up of territories, cities, scientific research, but players can't loose their empires for a military defeat. The control of the map but can give you victory points, resources and money. At each change of age the forces in the field "evaporate" in part, symbolizing the disappearance of the ancient civilizations and the rise of new powers.

The territories have cost and benefits. For example, the plains (represented by cultivated fields) give food, the mountains give resources that can be exchanged for money (or other), and so on.

Scientific discoveries have many implications (political, military, economic and also in terms of pure and simple points to win the game) and disappear with the change of age, unless you pay hard cash to keep them.

The mechanism of the board game is created to introduce a lot of suspense during the “ages of empires”.
