Film director Peter Berg has recently spoke about his new movie project based on the classic board game Battleship, confirming the rumours about alien ships and revealing many other exclusive details ... The pre-production of the Battleship movie, the new film based on the famous board game proceeds smoothly: last week, to generate some buzz around his new big-budget movie, Universal
Pictures has invited a small group of reporters in San Diego on a real US Navy warship (USS Sterett), for a press conference with the filmmaker Peter Berg.
It seems that to get closer to naval army action, the new director of this new adaptation of the Battleship board game is working closely with the US Navy and shared the last news about the work progress with the press.
The first scoop is that Berg confirmed that the bad guys of the movie will be aliens called "The Regents” who sail the sea with enormous insects looking ships. The story involves five ships of the army who come into contact with these aliens while they are intent on building a mysterious power source in the middle of the sea. The aliens are biologically similar to humans and are interested in our planet for environmental reasons. Aliens do not hate humans, but kill without mercy anyone who tries to stop using the weapons of their ships. The hero of the new battleship movie is the captain of a warship and the search of enemy ships will be the basis of the entire film. The attempt that the producers are doing to realize this new board games based movie is not only to recover as much as possible the stylistic features of the original game, but also making it more sophisticated and attractive thanks to a massive dose of action scenes. To achieve the special effects is nothing less than the ILM, a guarantee for successful viewing of the film. More details are available in full report of Latino Review, which contains the whole conversation with director Peter Berg. The new Battleship movie will be released August 5, 2011 along with a lot of gadgets, merchandise material and hopefully also with a new version of this evergreen board game.
